AHSGE and Attendance: You can help!

Submitted by William Bishop on Mon, 03/01/2010 - 14:46

The Alabama High School Graduation Exam is this week and the first part began today. The AHSGE consists of five sections-reading, math, language, science, and social studies. High School students must currently pass all parts of the exam in order to graduate from high school. If students pass the exam on the first try that is one less thing that they will have to worry about while at HHS. We encourage all students taking the exam to get enough sleep at night, to eat a good breakfast, to show up on time and to do their best on the exam this week. We need a 95% participation ratio on the exam.

Attendance is another matter. We have had more absences than usual this year and we need a 95% attendance average at the high school to meet our improvement goals. This is very important for our students and our community.

Parents: Please encourage your children to be in school on a regular basis and to only miss under extreme circumstances. If you need help contact a school administrator.

Students: Missing too much school will have a negative impact your grades and your future. If you miss it is hard to catch up in your classes. Your grades, which will be shown to colleges, will most likely be lower and this could hurt you and your future. It might keep you out of college all together or at least the college of your choice.  Also, If you miss a noticeable amount, your teachers will start to think that you're slacking, not interested and don't care. This could keep them from writing good recommendations for you for college and/or future employers. Don't miss school unless absolutely necessary!
